Is it possible to use dual shield flux core for an open root pass? on a 3G open root 1” plate test with a 60-degree “v” groove. Using 1/16” flux core welding wire
I am taking a structural weld test for a company and this is what they told me before the test. I have not taken the test yet. I have done open root with MIG but not dual shield.

I recently got a piece of pipe. I believe it is copper nickel alloy. I am going to do a spark test to confirm material. Does copper nickel alloy pipe give off sparks and what color? What other test can I do to determine if it is copper nickel alloy?

I struggle with tack welding and getting a proper gap when welding pipe with stick. My space always gets stuck with one tack.

Have you used plug or slot welds for this type of project?

My past welding instructor told students if you could TIG weld aluminum then you could easily tig weld carbon steel and stainless. Is TIG welding aluminum harder the TIG welding carbon steel & Stainless steel?

Using Miller Pipe Worx 400 to practice for a weld test. This is the most expensive machine I have used. 3/8 inch plate with 37.5 angle bevel, 1/8 root opening, 1/16 landing. Mig root downhill. Dual shield flux core up hill. If click the trigger on any of the two guns the machine will automatically switch over with the saved settings. Crazy expensive
